Finding the right vet for an exotic pet

Is there an exotic pet vet in Manchester?

The Exotic Animal Vets (M41 0TQ) is a dedicated exotic animal practice with an M postcode. Many general practices also see rabbits and small mammals, and some have a vet with extra exotics training.

Do normal vets treat rabbits, guinea pigs and reptiles?

Most general practices treat rabbits and many treat guinea pigs and other small mammals. Reptiles, birds and fish need more specialist knowledge. Before you register, ask the practice which species its vets regularly see and whether they can admit your pet as an inpatient.

What should I ask an exotics vet?

Ask how often they see your species, whether they have the right equipment (for example heated hospital units for reptiles), who covers exotic emergencies out of hours, and whether any of their vets hold a postgraduate qualification in zoological or exotic animal medicine.
