How listings work

Every practice is listed free. This page explains who is listed, how the order is worked out and where the data comes from.

Who is listed

We aim to list every veterinary practice, hospital and emergency service for pets with a postcode beginning with M followed by a number. That covers Manchester, Salford, most of Trafford and the M-postcode parts of neighbouring boroughs. Practices do not need to sign up, and no practice can pay to remove or hide a competitor. If a practice is missing, tell us.

How the list is ordered

By default, practices are ordered by their Google rating weighted by how many reviews they have. The same formula is applied to every practice:

score = (v ÷ (v + 50)) × R + (50 ÷ (v + 50)) × C

Practices without a Google rating are listed last, A to Z. You can also sort A to Z or by number of reviews, and filter by area, ownership and emergency cover. The order is recalculated every time we refresh the data, so it changes when ratings change.

This is a measure of what customers say on Google, not a judgement of clinical quality. We don't call any practice the "best".

Promoted listings are paid

Practices can pay for one of two promoted spaces at the top of the "All Manchester Veterinary Practices" list. A promoted listing:

Paying for a promoted listing does not:

Practices can send us a short description of their services. We check it against the practice's own website before publishing, and it has no effect on the order.

Where the data comes from

Names, addresses, phone numbers, opening hours, ratings and review counts come from each practice's public Google Business Profile. Ownership comes from the practice's website, the owning group's website or Companies House, and every practice page links to the source. The data was last checked on 21 October 2026. Google ratings are shown for context only; we do not collect our own reviews.

Corrections

If anything is wrong, request an update. We correct factual errors for every practice.
