What is an independent vet?

An independent vet practice is owned by its own vets or a local owner rather than by a national group or private-equity-backed company. In this directory a practice is only marked independent when we have evidence, such as company records or a statement on the practice website.

How many independent vets are there in Manchester?

Are independent vets cheaper?

Not always. Prices vary practice by practice, whoever owns them. After its investigation of the vets market (final decision March 2026), the Competition and Markets Authority is requiring practices to publish clearer information about ownership, prices and services, phased in by September 2027. Until then, the best way to compare is to ask two or three practices for the price of the same thing, such as a standard consultation or a vaccination booster.
